Mr. Rawdon-Smith, Public Relations Officer

in the Dominions Office, who has retained his

connection with the British Overseas Airways

Corporation (late Imperial Airways), came to see me

this morning about Mr. Nelson's release. He merely

emphasised the anxiety of the Corporation as indicated

in No. 7 that Mr. Nelson should be released as soon

as possible.

I had previously ascertained from the Air

Ministry that they had already telegraphed to the

A.O.C. Far East instructing him to release Mr. Oxford

at once, so I was able to tell Mr. Rawdon-Smith this

and that we did not anticipate in the circumstances

that there would be any difficulty about the early

release of Mr. Nelson. I understand that the Air

Ministry are writing to us officially about Mr. Oxford's

release, but we need hardly await their letter before

communicating with the Governor. It now remains to

tell the Governor that we understand that Mr. Oxford

is
